Offline conversion setup

Five steps from a fresh account to a closed deal appearing in Google Ads. Budget about ten minutes; steps 1 and 2 are one-time.

1. Connect2. Conversion action3. Capture clicks4. Mark closed-won5. Push & verify

Before you start you need a Google Ads account you are authorised to manage, and the Convertss embed or a Convertss form already live on your site. The free tier is enough for all of this and does not ask for a card.

1

Connect your Google Ads account

Dashboard → Ads → Credentials

  1. Open Dashboard → Ads → Credentials. The Google Ads card sits at the top.
  2. Click Connect Google Ads. You are sent to Google's own consent screen. Convertss requests a single scope — https://www.googleapis.com/auth/adwords — and nothing else.
  3. Approve with the Google account that has access to the Ads account you want to use. You land back on the Credentials tab and the card shows Authorised as your-email@example.com.
  4. Pick the Ads account from the Ads account dropdown (or type the ten-digit customer ID, no dashes) and click Save account.

2

Choose the conversion action to upload into

Which Google Ads conversion action receives your offline deals

Offline conversions land on a conversion action inside your own Google Ads account. It must be created with the Import → Offline conversions source; a website-tag conversion action will reject uploads. Convertss maps one action per conversion category, so lead-form submissions and phone contacts can be counted separately if you want that.

Currently set up with us. The self-serve picker for this step is not shipped yet. After you complete step 1, email hello@convertss.com with your customer ID and either the name of the offline conversion action you want used, or a request for us to create one. We map it the same working day. Until an action is mapped, pushes are recorded as skipped — No conversion action configured rather than failing silently.

3

Confirm click IDs are being captured

Dashboard → Formstack / Leads

Nothing can be pushed without a click ID. Convertss forms and the chatbot widget read gclid, gbraid and wbraid off the landing-page URL and persist them in browser storage for 90 days, so a visitor who browses for a week still submits with the original click attached.

To verify, visit your own landing page with a test parameter appended:

test URLhttps://yoursite.com/landing?gclid=TEST_GCLID_123

Submit the form, then open Dashboard → Ads → Conversions. The new lead appears with a Google chip and a pending status. If the chip is missing, the click ID never reached the form — check that the Convertss script is on the landing page and that no redirect strips query parameters.

4

Mark the deal closed-won

Dashboard → Ads → Conversions

A lead only becomes a conversion when you say the deal closed. Set the deal value on the lead — Convertss reads conversion_value, value, amount or price from the submitted form data, so a “deal value” field on your form or CRM sync fills it automatically. Leads without a value are pushed at the account default rather than being dropped.

Two things are enforced at this point, both by Google's rules rather than ours:

  • Leads flagged as spam are never uploaded, so an AI-classified junk submission cannot pollute Smart Bidding.
  • A gclid older than 90 days is marked expired and skipped — Google will not attribute it, so sending it would only produce errors.
5

Push, then read the push log

Dashboard → Ads → Conversions

  1. Filter to Not pushed, tick the leads you want to send (or the header checkbox to select every pushable row).
  2. Click Push selected. Up to 200 leads go per request; they are grouped by conversion action and uploaded through the Google Ads API uploadClickConversions endpoint.
  3. Each row's chip flips to pushed, failed, skipped or expired. A failure keeps Google's own error text on the lead, so you can see exactly what it objected to.

Uploads run with partial failure enabled, so one malformed row never discards the batch — the rest still land. Re-pushing a lead that already succeeded is a no-op.

Google Ads takes up to three hours to surface imported conversions, and attributes them to the date of the original click rather than the upload. Do not expect the number to move the moment the push finishes.

Common errors
